The National Health Fund (CNS) of Luxembourg is taking a major step in modernizing the healthcare system with the announcement of progressive medical document digitalization.
Implementation Timeline
July 2025: Physicians can request necessary software updates for digital document transmission.
January 2026: Mandatory digital transmission of medical forms begins, starting with medical fee statements.
2026-2027: Progressive extension of digital transmission to other forms such as sick certificates and prescriptions.
Key Digital Features
The new digital platform will offer:
- Digital Immediate Payment (PID): Streamlined payment processes
- Digitalized Reimbursement: Accelerated reimbursement processing
- Electronic Signing and Timestamping: Document security and traceability
Transition Support
Software providers will receive financial support for digital upgrades. Physicians will retain the ability to print physical copies for patients during the transition period.
Exemption Criteria
Certain physicians may request exemption before August 1, 2025:
- Born before January 1, 1965
- Working independently
- Annual revenue under €100,000
This initiative represents a significant step toward modernizing Luxembourg's healthcare system, aiming to improve the efficiency of medical record exchanges.
