Home care: proven positive impact on elderly well-being

A major scientific study published in 2026 in Scientific Reports (Nature) provides new evidence on the benefits of home care for elderly people.

Key findings

The study, entitled "Factors influencing the well-being of elderly population in home care mode and optimization research", collected 800 valid responses through a questionnaire assessing four dimensions of well-being:

  • Physical health
  • Mental state
  • Daily activity capability
  • Social interaction

The results show that the mental state and social interactions of elderly people improved significantly after receiving home care. These findings highlight the importance of human connection and personalised support in maintaining seniors' well-being.

What this means for home care in Luxembourg

At SUR.lu, we have always believed that home care goes far beyond medical procedures. This study confirms what our teams observe every day in the field: the regular presence of a caregiver at home contributes not only to physical health, but also to the mental health and social connections of the people we support.

In Luxembourg, where the population is ageing rapidly, these results reinforce the importance of developing quality, person-centred home care services.
